Kuldhara Village – Trip from Jaisalmer

Kuldhara is an abandoned village in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. Due to a mysterious curse that descended upon it in 1825, along with the 84 other neighbouring villages, the village has been uninhabited for almost 200 years.

History Of The Village

Kuldhara was a prosperous village inhabited by the Paliwal Brahmins. However, the residents of the village vanished overnight in the year 1825 after a minister of the state, Salim Singh, demanded exorbitant taxes from them which they were unable to pay.

Some say that Salim Singh promised to marry the daughter of the village chief and when refused, he threatened to disrupt their prosperity and drove them out.
